    for kids

The Children’s and Youth Ministry Teams at First Church are dedicated to loving and encouraging children on their journey as they discover God’s truths in relevant, age-appropriate ways. Our goal is that children and youth will learn how the Scriptures apply to their lives, laying the foundation for embracing God’s story and understanding how their story fits into His.  For more information on Children's Ministry contact Lisa Gonzales.  For more information on Youth Ministry contact Chris Linderman.

Bernie Peterman

Business Manager

In June of 2005, God called me out of my job in the crazy construction industry to work here at First Church as the Business Administrator. I have never regretted that calling. I enjoy working in the crazy church life. Each day is different. Between all the accounting, property management and office administration work, I also get to help people by working with the Family Crisis ministry. A pastor friend told me once “working in a church is a 24/7 job”. She was right. But she also said to remember to take time for family and rest. To that end, my husband Don and I love to camp, either in canvas tents reenacting 1860 or modern tents with my family. When it’s too hot to camp in Florida, we like to spend weekend in Naples at the beach. My Life verse is Phil 4:6-7. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. If all just worried less and prayed more our lives would be Christ centered.

Lisa Gonzales

Director of Children's Ministry

My name is Lisa Gonzales and I have attended First Church for over 12 years. I attend with my husband, Tony, and our three children, Joey, Mikey, and Bella. I grew up in Boca Raton, FL and was born and raised in a Methodist home. Church has always played a very important part of my life. I have a degree in Elementary Education from UCF and taught 1st grade for many years. I continue to keep my teaching license updated and have since added a certification in Prekindergarten/Primary and Preschool. Teaching has always been my passion and was honored to be asked to lead the Children's Ministry here at First Church. What a joy to be in a position that blends three things I love very much - Jesus, my children, and teaching. God never ceases to amaze me with His plans and I look forward to what the future holds!
